Silicone mold 3D printable generator

A free custom mold maker: pick any model and get 3D printable mold parts as STL files: a pour box to make a silicone mold for resin casting, or a two-part printed mold. It also tells you exactly how much silicone to mix.

How to make a 3D printed resin casting mold

  1. Pick a model. Choose a free model from free3dstl or drop in your own STL, and set the print size.
  2. Choose the mold type. Mould box: pour silicone around your model to make a silicone mold for resin. Two-part mold: print a hollow mold and pour silicone in for a silicone copy.
  3. Check your printer bed. Pick your printer or enter its bed size; a mould box too big for the bed is split into two parts.
  4. Download the mold STL files. Print the box or mold parts, then glue the model to the base.
  5. Mix and pour. Mix the amount of silicone shown, pour slowly from one corner, let it cure, then demould and cast your resin.

Questions

Can I make a silicone mold with a 3D printer?

Yes. Print the mold box, fix your printed model inside, and pour silicone around it. Once cured, the silicone mold can cast resin, wax, soap or plaster.

How much silicone do I need?

The mold maker calculates the volume between the model and the box walls and shows how much silicone to mix.

What is the best way to make a resin casting mold?

Use a smooth print (sand or prime it), a box with 5–10 mm walls of silicone around the model, and platinum-cure silicone for resin.

Does it work with any STL?

Yes, any closed STL. Free models on free3dstl open straight into the mold maker.
